The Grade II listed towers over Denmark Hill station. The central dark brick tower, flanked by symmetrical lower wings is reminiscent of Scott’s other works, in particular Cambridge’s University Library. In plan its generous courtyard design contrasts with the dense street pattern of Victorian and Edwardian terraces of Camberwell that surround it. The Salvation army runs leadership and training programmes here since 1929 and the internal spaces have a communal, collegiate feel, with lower residential buildings framing green lawns planted with mature trees.
