52. Alex Monroe Studio
Two projects by DSDHA in south London
Tower Bridge Road, London
Alex Monroe workshop on Tower Bridge Road by DSDHA
The second of studios designed for Alex Monroe Jewellery, this new insertion sits within a tight medieval block pattern on a bustling main road. Raw materials such as metal and birch faced ply were used to define this ‘makers’ environment. A grand ‘social staircase’ worked out of plates of folded metal form circulation that speaks to every floor level and becomes a meeting place for conversation for the staff that inhabit the building.
Alex Monroe workshop on Snowsfields by DSDHA
The first studio designed for Alex Monroe Jewellery,, this new block end accommodates Monroe’s shop at ground floor and making spaces at upper levels. The building went swiftly up with CLT construction and then was clad slowly in zinc by a team of two, working the metal cladding into shape as the jeweller does with their fine jewellery. Elements of this project such as the showcasing of found objects were bought into the new project at Tower Bridge Road.
